Hi All, Can anyone tell me of an external CD burner that is simple to use, and if possible, doesn't come with any drivers? Maybe a USB connection? I'm running WIndows XP Service Pack 2, the Professional Edition. Also, I'd like the price not to be too outrageous? Lol thanks.
Caitlin
Walmart has them for pretty cheap, like $75 or so by HP, and I've seen Lite-ons there as well. For just slightly more, you can buy a dvd burner whch burns cds as well.
Does the DVD burner play CD's as well? And do you know if any of these come with Nero or whatever?
Caitlin
Hey,
I got one from RadioShack for like $75 or so, it was a USB connection, and it came with Nero Express.
Take care,
Cort
Caitlin. I have an external Pioneer burner, it's slow with dvds (only 2x) but with cd's it's 48x (more than fast enough, the very fastest are 52x but you never really use that because you only save like 30 seconds at the most and there are a lot of brands of rewritable cds that don't take that much speed and your writing gets messed up). It's usb 2.0, it comes with drivers but if you have Windows XP you won't need them.
I think I could sell it for like $60 if you are interested.
I got another computer with a faster dvd writer and I have a wireless network so I don't really need this one any more.
So, if you're interested drop me a message, otherwise check out bestbuy or buy.com they have tons of external burners and if you have XP most of them you don't need to install any drivers or anything, you'll need stuff like Nero and if you buya new one you'll probably get that. I might be able to get you my CD with Nero as well, I think I have it, but if you are interested drop me that message and I'll let you know exactly what I have.
cheers

I used to have a cd burner, not an external one, but it had Nero Express. Personally, i hated that program. I found it very unaccessible with Jaws. So i went on the internet and got a demo of this program called wave cd creator. There are 2 problems with this demo though:
1. Obviously, since it was a demo, it was limited, so it can only burn 3 cds before you have to register.
2. You had to have your songs in wave format, and though its a much better quality than mp3, they are very large files, and if you dont have a whole lot of space on your hard drive that wouldnt be the best idea. But the prgram was very accessible. If any of you want it, you can contact me and I'll email it to you.
I got the same one as Cort.
